Polish Cut Crystal Covered Bonbonnière

A lidded crystal bowl of real presence — eighteen centimetres across and eighteen tall, which puts it in centrepiece territory rather than the small candy dish it first resembles. Deep spiral flutes wrap the body and the domed lid in the same direction, so the two read as one turning form when the lid is seated. The rim is cut into a scalloped crown; the finial is a ribbed bud.
Against the flutes sit frosted medallions of leaves and berries, acid-etched and then finished by hand on the cold wheel — the veining inside each leaf is cut, not moulded, and the edges carry the slight irregularity that hand-finishing leaves behind.
On what this is, and is not
The piece carries no maker’s mark. We know it as Polish cut crystal and we will not attach a factory name to it on a guess — Poland has several houses whose work looks like this, and picking one would be invention rather than provenance. What can be said from the object itself is on this page and nothing more.

Condition
Very good throughout. The lid seats cleanly and the contact ring between lid and bowl — where covered pieces almost always show their wear — is sound. No chips, no cracks, no losses to the points of the crown rim. This is a previously owned object rather than new stock, and it is offered as one; we simply found nothing to report against it.
Care
Hand wash in warm water and dry with a soft cloth. No dishwasher, no abrasive cleaners. Lift by the bowl rather than the finial, and lift the lid straight up so the two cut edges do not grind together. Lead crystal should not hold acidic contents for long periods.
